Artist Talk with John McQueen

Please join us for an artist talk by John McQueen, whose work is featured in WordPlay: Messages in Branches & Bark. John will discuss his artistic process and the playfully subtle messages that he incorporates into his work. He uses willow, bamboo, birch bark, and waxed string to create life-like animal and human images, and objects such as baskets and books that incorporate woven text. Some of his sculptures and wall art include flattened and cut pieces of plastic, which he uses to comment upon our relationship to the natural world. All of the letters and symbols in his books, baskets, and wall text pieces form words and messages, some obvious and others that need to be deciphered.

Reservations are recommended but not required.
